Where to Go

Plane travel is expensive and prone to getting delayed by winter weather. If you are going to cross the country to visit relatives anyway, why not use your camper? You can make a journey of it, visiting holiday attractions along the way and exploring our beautiful country. Even if your final destination is an RV park rather than a family member’s house, many of these parks offer Thanksgiving and Christmas evening meals for those staying with them. Enjoy the holidays wherever you go!

Decorations

Decorations can help you get into the right mood, and there are quite a few options out there. Even if your RV is a bit on the smaller side, simple things like putting ribbons on your cabinets and garland create a festive mood without taking up too much space. Get creative with the things you already have lying around! Some RV owners like to hang ornaments on fishing line or create festive trees out of wood they find. Consider switching out your normal blankets and pillows for seasonal themed equivalents. 

If you want to go that extra mile, many house lights are compatible with your camper. RV owners who are staying in one place long term sometimes like to go the extra mile with lights, lawn ornaments, and festive signs. These displays can be surprisingly elaborate, so keep your eyes open if you’re ever at an RV park during the holidays!

Food

Camper owners are used to making the most out of a smaller kitchen. As always, creativity is the key. If you are going to a potluck, making one or two dishes should be no problem. If you’re bearing the burden of the entire meal, consider substituting holiday staples like ham or turkey that are difficult to cook in an RV with alternatives, like chicken. Certain RV parks have public kitchens you can ask to use if certain dishes are giving you trouble. 

Gifts

Finding the perfect gift is always difficult. It’s nearly impossible to surprise someone if you just flat-out ask them what they want, but that leaves you with nothing but guesswork. If you have an RV owner in your life you want to gift for, try to get them something that will travel well. For example, gift cards for local chains might not get used by someone who is always on the road, so go with national chains or online retailers. Keep in mind that they might not have much space for extra trinkets, so consider getting them a food they love or a camper accessory.
