Keeping Your RV Bathroom Clean
It's amazing how quickly a camper bathroom can become dirty. The longer your vacation and the larger the traveling party, the faster messes can build up. Use the following strategies to stay ahead of the messes and keep your RV bathroom clean.

RV Toilet Maintenance
Before the Vacation
The toilet seal helps prevent water from leaking out and helps prevent smells. If the seal starts to harden, you can use plumber's grease to reseal the toilet. Check the seal before your vacation so that you can catch any issues early on and avoid having to replace the seal.
During the Trip
An RV toilet is more sensitive than a residential home toilet, which means it is not equipped to handle all types of toilet paper. Instead, you will need to use a one-ply option or a dedicated RV toilet paper option.
Blackwater Tank Maintenance
During the Vacation
Emptying the blackwater tank too soon can make the emptying process challenging. Emptying it too late can cause bad odors and backups. It's best to empty the blackwater tank once it is about 2/3 to 3/4 full.
To empty the blackwater tank:
Find the dump station at the campground.
Connect the tank valve to the dump station with a sewer hose.
Let it empty.
Once you've finished, double check that you closed the valve.
Consider adding chemicals to sanitize the tank and prevent odors.
Shower Maintenance
During the Trip
It's easy for soap and water to build up in the shower and lead to problems. To prevent this, travelers should wipe down the shower head and walls after each shower.
It's also important to regularly empty the gray water tank, which prevents back ups into the shower drain.
Deep Cleaning of Bathroom Surfaces
During the Vacation
Stock your RV with cleaning products tailored to your bathroom's given surfaces. Using the wrong products can cause damage to the bathroom surfaces or fail to deliver an adequate clean. You can check the RV manual for recommended bathroom cleaning products. You can also use common bathroom cleaning products, such as a diluted bleach solution or a vinegar-and-water mixture.
Take a paper towel or cleaning rag and the cleaner, then clean the various surfaces. It can help to spot clean throughout the vacation, which will help prevent too much gunk buildup and make the final cleaning process easier.
