A motorhome is an exciting investment in lifelong memories, family fun, and engaging adventures. But it's also a financial investment not to be taken lightly. Motorhomes tend to be pricier RVs due to their large size, drivetrain, and luxury features. There are also other costs beyond the sticker price, which affect the final cost. As with any purchase, it's helpful to know the full price before making the investment.

Here at Broadmoor RV, we strive to make your life easier. We created the following guide that covers the full cost of motorhome ownership, which will hopefully help you set a realistic budget. The Asking Price

The biggest expense is, of course, the motorhome's sticker price. The average starting price for a new motorhome is around $100,000. But there are different starting prices for the different motorhome categories.

The most expensive motorhome category is the Class A option. These are typically the largest in size and come with the most high-end features. They tend to start at around $112,000.

Class B motorhomes are the smallest and lightest models. They also tend to be the most affordable, usually around $81,000 or less.

Class C motorhomes fall in the middle. They offer a balance of size and features, costing about $81,000.

Taxes And Registration

There may be applicable fees such as sales tax, a one-time or annual registration fee, and property taxes. Those who are using their motorhome for their primary residence may be able to get tax benefits.

Insurance

Motorhomes need to be insured and this cost will be influenced by a few factors.

First, your motorhome model. More expensive models will cost more to repair or replace, which means the insurance costs will be higher.

Second, your driving record. The better driver you are, the less you will pay in insurance.

Third, the coverage. You may want to get extra coverage, such as protection for satellite dishes or the awning. The extra coverage will bump up the price.

Ownership Costs

There are all the costs that go into purchasing a motorhome. Then there are the costs associated with using the motorhome. It's helpful to be aware of both! After all, you don't want to max out your motorhome budget when you buy the rig...and need to save up for a while before you can take your first trip.

The motorhome ownership costs include:

  • Gas: Tends to be about $1,300 a year, but will depend on the motorhome's fuel efficiency, how often you drive, and how fast you drive.
  • Maintenance: Tends to be about $100 a month. If you get a used motorhome, you may have to pay more for repairs.
  • Utilities: Tends to be between $100 and $300 a month. Using energy-efficient appliances can help reduce this cost.
  • Storage: Tends to be between $30 and $400 a month. Of course, if you have room to store your motorhome on your property, then this won't cost anything.
  • Campsite Booking: Tends to be between $20 and $100 a night. Popular places or places full of perks (such as a swimming pool or beach access) usually cost more.
